In a meeting held on 21 March, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the entity responsible for the management of Internet domains, approved the establishment of a new top level domain, “.eu”, as well as the conclusion of an agreement with the European Registry Internet Domain Names (EURID), which is responsible for the process of development and management of this new top level domain.
The next steps to be taken concern, in particular, the approval by the European Commission of the Registration Policy for this top level domain, the accrediting of a network of entities that shall accept the requests for registration of “.eu” domains, as well as the preparation of a Registrar Agreement, which shall be available at the EURID’s website, in the course of the month of May.
