Lisbon Strategy under analysis

According to the recent annual review published by the Centre for European Reform (CER), the British analysis and reflection group, that assesses the achievement of the Lisbon Strategy objectives, approved in the Spring Council, in March 2000, the European Union will have difficulties in reaching its stated objective of becoming the world’s most competitive economy by 2010.

This review indicates the ranking of Member States in the development process of the Lisbon Strategy, which the new Commission headed by Mr. Durão Barroso aims to re-launch, as well as reforms already finalized, in particular as regards pension systems and liberalization of sectors such as energy and electronic communications.
