Results of the letter-writing competition 2005


The letter-writing competition 2005, a joint initiative of ANACOM and CTT - Correios de Portugal, aimed at young people of Portuguese nationality, residing in Portugal, of ages between 9 and 15, was subject this year to the theme ''A letter to my favorite fairy-tale character''.

Having analysed the 1306 letters received, 3 winners were defined, and 2 honourable mentions were awarded:

1st prize: Pedro Emanuel de Oliveira Sousa Marques (aged 14), from Vila Nova da Barquinha, whose letter was addressed to Peter Pan;

2nd prize: Joana Isabel Chambel São João (aged 11), from Portalegre, who chose the Little Tin Soldier Man;

3rd prize: João Miguel Pereira de Almeida (aged 15), from Tourais (Seia), who wrote to the Little Mermaid.

The honourable mentions were awarded to Edgar Pereira Tourita, from Lourinhã, who presented a letter addressed to Snow White’s evil step-mother, and to João Simões Guerreiro, from Amadora, who wrote about the Ugly Duckling.

The authors of the three awarded letters shall receive savings certificates, to a total amount of €1500 (1st prize), €750 (2nd prize) and €375 (3rd prize).

The winning letter shall represent Portugal in the international letter-writing competition, organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the winners of which shall be announced next September, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The world champion shall be awarded a journey to Hans Christian Andersen’s home country, the Danish kingdom.
