ANACOM launches Tariff Monitor

The mobile telephone service Tariff Monitor is already available. This is a simulator created and developed by ANACOM, in collaboration with the three mobile operators (TMN, Vodafone and Optimus), giving private consumers the possibility to consult, analyze and compare, for free, these operators’ tariffs, and to simulate either virtual calls or a monthly consumption in the scope of the same the tariffs.

The Tariff Monitor includes national calls, i.e., calls made from national mobile networks to national mobile network numbers in the domestic territory and to fixed network geographic numbers. It thus makes it possible for several types of comparisons based on voice service virtual consumptions, built on a case by case basis, for and by each consumer, with no use of pre-defined consumption profile types or call baskets. However, the results obtained do not constitute a simulation of a monthly invoice, nor can be used to validate this invoice.

The values presented in the several functionalities of the Tariff Monitor have in consideration the VAT taxes currently in force (21% in continental Portugal and 15% in the Autonomous Regions). The results obtained will thus not comply with calls made before July 1st 2005 (when the VAT tax was lower).

The information referring to the tariffs practiced by the operators of the mobile telephone service are introduced by these same operators, ANACOM not having any influence on their content, which are therefore of the entire and exclusive responsibility of the operators who supply them. Thus, the use of this Monitor does not excuse the consultation of the tariffs that the mobile telephone service operators provide on their Internet sites.

Should you have any doubts regarding the tariffs that you are currently using or your monthly invoice, contact your mobile telephone service operator.

It is intended, in short, to extend the Tariff Monitor to other services, such as short messages service (SMS) and multimedia messages service (MMS), with the aim of facilitating the sustained choices of all users.
