Third ENISA Anti-Spam Measures Survey

This report presents the results of a survey of providers of email services of different types and sizes, in which responses were received from 90 respondents from 30 different countries, including Member States of the European Union, comprising the management of 80 million mailboxes. The study examines how providers are combating spam on their networks, and identifies the current status of this problem.

Of the study’s main conclusions, note should be made of the fact that less than 5 percent of all traffic from e-mail is delivered to mailboxes, which means that most of the messages, 95 percent, is spam. This represents a very slight change compared to previous ENISA reports, in which it was reported at 6 percent.  The report also reveals that 70 percent of respondents consider spam an extremely significant or significant factor for their security operations.
