The first meeting of the Steering Committee (SC), management body for Galileo filings (publication by the International Telecommunication Union - ITU - of frequency notification requests concerning the future European satellite radionavigation system) was held on 15 March in Paris.
At the meeting, the original version of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in November 2004 was delivered to the representatives of each of the signatory administrations.
An actual chairman of this SC has yet to be appointed; eventual candidates are expected to be known by a month before the next meeting, when the respective appointment will be made.
The next meeting should also decide which filings will be included in this MoU. For this reason, the notifying administrations (France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom) should send to the signatory administrations by the end of April a list of the filings to be included in this legal instrument.
The representatives of the European Space Agency (ESA) indicated that the first Galileo test satellite will be launched by the end of this year.
The next SC meeting has been scheduled for 10-11 October.
