ANACOM joins the celebration of World Radio Day 2022

João Cadete Matos, Chairman of ANACOM, and Luís Roque Pedro, Head of ANACOM's Porto office, took part in celebrations marking World Radio Day on 13 February 2022 at an event promoted by the European Club of the Camilo Castelo Branco School Group, European Parliament Ambassador School, in Vila Nova de Famalicão.

The celebration, which had the support of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was organised by Beatriz de Madail Fragoso, ambassador of the European Club and the youngest radio amateur in the country, and by Margarida Cunha, also the club's ambassador.

The event - which took the form of an online debate and which saw active participation by José Roquette, radio amateur, economist and public figure, accompanied by João Porto, also a radio amateur, announcer and strategic marketing coordinator of Grupo Renascença Multimédia -, provided an important perspective on the vast range of radio and radiocommunications applications, sharing unique experiences linked to radio.

The debate was an opportunity to exchange experience and information on the use and importance of radio in the daily life of citizens, as well as to disseminate ideas and knowledge of the radio environment among young people, contributing, in particular, to the promotion of amateur radio. The event also featured testimonies from personalities at academic and municipal levels, from Assembleia da República (Assembly of the Republic) and various local and national radio announcers and musicians.

The first World Radio Day was celebrated on 13 February 2012. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a way of celebrating the importance of radio, a uniquely valuable means of communication that remains easily accessible to the general population.
