By the end of the 1st quarter of 2021, the number of residential customers of high-speed services at a fixed location reached 3.1 million, up 9.4% in the same quarter last year. Approximately 76.6% of households had subscribed to these services.

On a regional basis, Lisbon (92.1%), the Azores (86.6%) and Madeira (85.5%) have recorded penetration levels above the national average, while the North (73.3%), Centre (66.3%), Alentejo (56.2%) and Algarve (76.2%) regions show lower levels of penetration. The growth in the number of cabled households in the Algarve (16.5%), Madeira (+9.7%), Centre (+9.6%), and Alentejo (+6.5%) regions should also be emphasized, where the coverage of high-speed networks has come closer to the national average, which reinforces territorial cohesion.

The number of households connected with high-speed access supported on cable television networks (hybrid fibre coaxial, HFC) increased by 0.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, totalling 3.8 million. The coverage of this type of network stood at 59.5%.

The proportion of households and establishments connected with FTTH which was actually used reached 44.3% by the end of the quarter. The North, Lisbon and Azores regions showed FTTH adoption rates above the national average. This rate was lower than 40% in only two regions, Algarve and Madeira.
