On 31 January 2020, ANACOM implemented Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/785 of 14 May 2019 on the harmonisation of radio spectrum for equipment using ultra-wideband technology in the Union and repealing Decision 2007/131/EC.
Commission Decision 2007/131/EC, on allowing the use of the radio spectrum for equipment using ultra-wideband technology in a harmonised manner in the Community, was object of three amendments (Decision 2009/343/EC, of 21.04.2009, Decision 2014/702/EUhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1338515, of 07.10.2014 and Commission Decision 2017/1438https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1415687, of 04.08.2017) wherefore, for clarity and legal reasons, is justifed their revocation.
Commission Implementing Decision 2019/785 of 14 May 2019 is a new single Decision for UWB, which, in addition to considering the original Decision (2007/131/CE) and its updates, includes a series of amendments based on the following assumptions:
- The technical conditions should describe material sensing devices in a more neutral way in order to allow for innovative solutions;
- It should be possible to use the conditions for generic UWB usage also for material sensing applications;
- There should be a -65 dBm/MHz limit for all material sensing devices including building material analysis (BMA) in the 8.5-10.6 GHz band;
- The possibility of a trigger-before-transmit mitigation for vehicular access control systems based on UWB technology should be introduced in the 3.8-4.2 GHz and 6-8.5 GHz frequency bands.
