ECC WG FM PT22 meeting - September 2018

Project team 22 (PT22) of CEPT’s WG FM held a meeting last 11-14 September at ECC headquarters in Copenhagen, focusing on spectrum monitoring and control and enforcement.

The meeting was attended by 23 countries and three organisations (Wireless Fidelity Alliance (WiFi Alliance), European Meteorological Services Network (EUMETNET) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU), for a total of 39 delegates.

The following stand out, among other agenda points:

  • completion of the revision of Recommendation ECC/REC/(12)03 on determination of the radiated power through field strength measurements in the frequency range from 400 MHz to 6000 MHz, which includes a new measurement procedure and a new method for evaluating results, thereby enabling measurements in frequencies under below 400 MHz and improving measurement precision above 2000 MHz; it was forwarded to WG FM for approval;
  • completion of the report on mobile monitoring resources, which will be subject to public consultation following approval by WG FM;
  • analysis of the situation resulting from Europe-wide interference in weather radars, usually caused by radio local area networks (RLAN), alias WiFi, in the 5 GHz band;
  • analysis of the matter of interference in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), alias GPS; a questionnaire was drawn up to better understand the extent of the problem;
  • verification of the need to revise ERC/REC 54-01 and ITU-R SM.1268 concerning measurement of frequency deviation of frequency modulated emissions, due to the discrepancy of values indicated by equipment from different manufacturers;
  • the presentation by Germany and Finland of ongoing tests on the use of unmanned aircraft (drones) to make measurements;
  • the usual sharing of experience resolving different kinds of interference.

Plans call for the next meeting to be held on 2-5 April 2019 at ECC headquarters in Copenhagen.
