On 24 January 2018, the Chairman of ANACOM, João Cadete de Matos, made an official visit to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland. During the visit, he met ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao, and the Directors of the Union Sectors - ITU-T (standardization), ITU-R (radiocommunications) and ITU-D (development).
A range of subjects were discussed, including:
- Strategic priorities.
- Development of telecommunications and their relevance in the promotion of digital inclusion.
- Implementation of standards defined by the ITU.
- Recommendations for the protection of electronic communications infrastructure.
- Future challenges of radio spectrum management.
- Lines of cooperation between ITU and Portugal.
- Organization of "ITU Telecom World 2018", to be held in Durban, South Africa, from 10 to 13 September.
