7th meeting of RSPG WG PMSE - May 2017

Vienna hosted last 22-23 May the seventh meeting of the working group on the RSPG’s long-term opinion concerning spectrum requirements for future use and needs of applications in programme making and special events (PMSE) equipment, chaired by Austria and attended by 13 participants, including several administrations and the European Commission (EC).

At its 40th meeting on 8 June 2016 the RSPG approved the development of an RSPG opinion on PMSE, specifically a long-term strategy on spectrum requisites for future use and needs of wireless PMSE audio and video applications.

The EC wants that opinion to verify the expected impacts on PMSE services, taking into account the evolution of current use and the growing need to share spectrum use, and has asked for an evaluation of strategic options vis-à-vis spectrum access by wireless PMSE audio and video applications that can supply the quality of service needed for PMSE applications. The opinion should also put forward guidelines on the relevance of a common roadmap to support the audio and video PMSE sector in spectrum access, bearing in mind different national needs.

The first version of the proposed PMSE opinion should be ready for public consultation in June 2017 and the final version in November 2017.

This meeting basically focused on finalising the proposed opinion, in particular the recommendations, and on some points still open, especially for video PMSE. However, it was not possible to finish the proposed PMSE opinion at this meeting; it is expected to be finalised at a go-to-meeting.
