The project team on Number Portability (PT NP) of the working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) met last 15-16 March in Rome, at the invitation of the Italian regulator (AGCOM - Autorità per le Garanzienelle Comunicazioni). This PT produces studies, reports and recommendations concerning aspects associated to number portability and simplified operator switching.
This meeting served to examine responses received during public consultation of the following documents:
- Impact analysis report on more flexible use of numbers as identifiers of a communication’s origin;
- Recommendation on access to entities, without responsibilities at portability level, and to databases on number portability.
Also examined was the topic concerning change of mobile subscription via the over-the-air (OTA) method. In that regard an internal workshop was organised, counting participation by guest stakeholders with different profiles, of which the following stand out:
- GEMALTO (supplier of solutions associated to SIM cards);
- GSMA (mobile operators association);
- NOS (operator).
Work and studies were also conducted with a view to producing the report on how to facilitate provider switching and to fostering better competition in the machine-to-machine services sector, using the OTA method.
This working group’s next meeting is scheduled for June 2016.
