Citizen Band - period of validity of radio licenses


Pursuant to paragraph 1 of article 16 of Decree-Law no. 47/2000, of 24 March, which establishes the legal regime for the use of the Personal Radio Service - Citizen Band (SRP-CB), ANACOM hereby informs that:

1. The period of validity of CB station licenses, operating in AM (Amplitude Modulated) or FM (Frequency Modulated), the equipment of which has been approved in accordance with Recommendation T/R 20-02 adopted by CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations), and issued under Decree-Law no. 153/89, of 10 May, expires on 31 December 2006.

Thus, as from 1 January 2007, CB stations set up with equipment approved in accordance with CEPT Recommendation T/R 20-02 may in future no longer be used.

2. As from 1 January 2007, only CB stations set up with equipment operating in AM or FM shall be permitted, where the respective conformity, pursuant to articles 18, 19 and 36 of Decree-Law no. 192/2000, of 18 August, which establishes the rules on freedom of movement, placing on the market and operation throughout Portuguese territory of radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment, as well as the regime of their conformity assessment and marking, is assessed under the procedures provided for in that statutory instrument.
