A provisional list of standards and/ or specifications for electronic communications networks, services and associated facilities and services, referred to in article 17 of the Framework Directive (Directive 2002/21/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 7.03.2002), was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities (JOCE C331 of 31 December 2002), aiming to encourage the harmonised provision of electronic communications networks, electronic communications services and associated facilities and services.
This new list replaces the former list of standards published (on 7 November 1998) under the Open Network Provision Directive. However, since the new regulatory framework is applied as from 25 July 2003, those standards shall remain in force up till then.
Since the new regulatory framework covers all the electronic communications networks, services and associated facilities, this list reflects that reality.
Accordingly, the news are: the exclusion of several standards from the Open Network Provision (ONP), namely most of those associated to the PSDS Recommendation 92/382/EEC and to the ISDN Recommendation 82/383/EEC; and the inclusion of new standards, being of interest the creation of a new radiobroadcasting chapter.
The list of standards and technical specifications shall be subject to regular revisions in order to consider the requirements arising out of new technologies and market changes.
