/ Updated on 24.01.2003

The Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal granted two licenses to Sonae-Redes de Dados S.A. The first of these licenses attributed within the scope of the liberalization of the fixed telephone service, allows Sonae to offer this service as of the 1st of January 2000, under the terms of the decree-law nr. 381-A/97, dated the 30th of December. This license is attributed during a 15-year term, finishing on the 1st of January 2015.
Sonae is therefore the second operator to be licensed for the provision of fixed telephone service after E3G, following the process that began on the 15th of June.

Simultaneously ICP attributed a Public Telecommunications Network license to Sonae. This license allows the company to establish and supply a Public Telecommunications network, guaranteeing national connections and, on an international level, interconnection between networks and services of other countries.

The term of this second license ends on the 16th of August 2014.
