1st seminar of Portuguese Committee of URSI debates impact of radiocommunications on health


The Portuguese Committee of URSI - International Union of Radio Science, which is responsible for stimulating and co-ordinating, at a national level, studies on radio science, telecommunications and electronics, and whose work programme is organised by ANACOM, will be holding its first seminar on 28 November 2007.

With the title, ''Radiocommunications - new paradigms and health impact'', the aim of this seminar is to promote scientific works in these areas and to encourage the exchange of experiences between researchers, manufacturers and service providers.

The range of issues addressed at the seminar includes the evaluation of electromagnetic fields, the updated results of the programme for measuring electromagnetic fields of the monIT project, the effects of mobile telephones on hearing aids and the role of the Director-General for Health with respect to non-ionizing radiation. The performance of 3.5G mobile networks and the behaviour of DVB-T/H system in suburban mobile channels are other themes that will be discussed at the seminar, whose opening session is to be attended by ANACOM chairman, José Manuel Amado da Silva.

The first seminar of Portuguese Committee of URSI will be held in the Auditorium of the Rectory of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and participation is free and open to all. However pre-registration is required, and a registration form is available until 26 November 2007 (the limit for registration) on ANACOM's website.

URSI - International Union of Radio Science is a non-governmental and non-profit making organisation under the auspices of the International Council of Scientific Unions. Its aim is to encourage and coordinate, at an international level, studies, research, applications, scientific exchanges and information sharing in the area of radio electricity sciences.
