Definition of relevant markets for low bandwidth switched fixed services and SMP assessments
By determination of 8 July 2004, the definition of relevant markets for low bandwidth switched fixed services and the corresponding SMP assessment was approved.
The following markets were defined: (i) narrowband access to the public telephone network in a fixed location for residential customers; (ii) narrowband access to the public telephone network in a fixed location for non-residential customers; (iii) local and national telephone services publicly available and supplied in a fixed location for residential customers; (iv) international telephone services publicly available in a fixed location for residential customers; (v) local and national telephone services publicly available and supplied in a fixed location for non-residential customers; (vi) international telephone services publicly available in a fixed location for non-residential customers; (vii) telephone services destined to non-geographic numbers publicly available in a fixed location; (viii) call origination in the public telephone network in a fixed location; (ix) call termination in individual public telephone networks in a fixed location.
The following companies were identified with significant market power: PT Group companies operating in relevant markets (i) to (viii); all fixed network operators exercising in the market for call termination in individual public telephone networks in a fixed location - market (ix).
Notice to the European Commission about this decision was also approved.
