Short Messages Service (SMS)

By determination of 6 February 2003, made as a result of PT Comunicações (PTC) willing to provide a short messages service (SMS) in fixed networks by using an own Mobile Network Code (MNC), it was decided as follows:

1. To allow PTC, pursuant to article 10 of Decree-Law no. 381-A/97, of 30 December, to provide a short messages service (SMS);

2. For that purpose, PTC is hereby allowed to use MNC '02' so as to make the short messages service (SMS) in the fixed network feasible, in full interoperability with the current mobile operators;

3. To revaluate the situation within one year, in accordance with the new developments, both regarding the standardization of protocols for the interoperability between networks and the possible change/extension of ITU-T Recommendation E.212;

4. To inform all operators/telephone service providers of this procedure.
