ANACOM approves postal service price and quality conventions

/ Updated on 08.05.2006

ANACOM - National Communications Authority and CTT - Correios de Portugal have signed the quality and price conventions which will be in force up to the end of the year.

As regards prices, the regulatory authority has decided not to oppose to the proposal submitted by CTT - Correios de Portugal to update by 2% the postal service tariffs, in view of the fact that this figure is in line with the determination of the price convention signed between these two entities, which establishes that the weighed average variation of the reserved postal services prices may no exceed the rate of inflation minus 0.3%.

The new prices of reserved postal services take effect as of 1 May.

As regards the postal service quality convention, which shall run until the end of the year, the regulatory authority has established higher levels of quality for the postal service, for all parameters, except for the intra-community cross-border mail parameter, the levels of which remain in force.

The postal service quality convention establishes the parameters of quality of service that CTT - Correios de Portugal are bound to provide as regards the transit time of priority mail and non-priority mail, newspapers and other periodical publications, and delivery of postal parcels. The levels of quality of customer service at post offices, postal agencies and other postal offices, measured by the waiting time in a queue to be served, have also been defined in the signed convention.

The conventions now signed take effect as from 1 January, being valid until 31 December this year, and are renewable for one-year periods of time, except where terminated by ANACOM - National Communications Authority and CTT - Correios de Portugal, at least 60 days in advance of the end of its term. Where the conventions are terminated, the levels of quality and prices remain in force, until the standards established in new conventions come into force.
