ANACOM participates in 1st Information Society Forum


In the presence of the Prime Minister, José Socrates, ANACOM Chairman, Pedro Duarte Neves will be one of the speakers at the first session of the Information Society Forum - a debate on public policies for promoting the information society. The forum was launched under the ''Connect Portugal'' programme, as a forum for debate, exchange of information and evaluation of public policy. It aims to bring together on a regular basis the key public and private figures involved in the development of the information society.

At the end of the day an agreement will be signed between the Portuguese government and the University of Carnegie-Mellon. This follows the protocol recently signed with MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and fulfills the government's aim of establishing agreements with various universities.

Also present at the session will be, the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, José Mariano Gago; The Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor; President of UMIC, Luís Magalhães; Coordinator of the Technological Plan, Carlos Zorrinho; and Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, coordinator of the Administration Modernization Co-ordination Unit. The heads of various Portuguese universities will also be attending. The Prime Minister will also be presiding over the closing session of the forum, which is to be held tomorrow in Aveiro's Parque de Exposições.
