ANACOM present at the 14th CPLP Communications Forum

The 14th Communications Forum of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) took place today, 26 June 2024, with the theme “The Sustainable Development Goals and the Communications Sector”. The event brought together a number of international entities and organisations to discuss how digital and technological developments have driven changes in the communications sector.

The various presentations given during the forum also addressed the relationships between digital transformation and sustainability and how this is interconnected with pursuit of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). With the advance of digital technology, we are witnessing new practices in (tele)working, production and management. From an environmental point of view, these practices are more sustainable and consume less energy; from a social point of view, they support a better personal and professional life balance.

Alongside Sandra Maximiano, Chairwoman of ANACOM's Board of Directors, the event was attended by the Special Adviser on Africa to the United Nations Secretary-General, and regulators from Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste, the CPLP, ARCTEL - Associação de Reguladores de Comunicações e Telecomunicações da CPLP (Association of Communications and Telecommunications Regulators of the CPLP), the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), CTT – Correios de Portugal, University of Porto, the heads of APRITEL - Associação dos Operadores de Comunicações Eletrónica (Association of Telecommunications Operators) and of ANJE - Associação Nacional de Jovens Empresários (National Association for Young Entrepreneurs).

ANACOM was also represented by Manuel Cabugueira, Member of the Board of Directors, who moderated the round table on “SDGs and Innovation”, and by Augusto Fragoso, Director General for Information and Innovation, who addressed the topic “SMART Cables at the service of the environment (natural phenomena detection systems)”.
