ANACOM updates the schedule of the auction of 5G and other relevant bands

The public consultation of the draft regulation of the auction for allocation of frequency user rights for 5G and other relevant bands (700 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2.1 GHz, 2.6 GHz and 3.6 GHz), which ended last Friday, received around 500 contributions. Governmental bodies, the two Regional Governments, regulators, public institutions, local authorities, providers of electronic communications services, manufacturers and the public in general participated in the consultation.

Now that this phase of the procedure has been completed, ANACOM considers that it is opportune to update the indicative schedule for conducting the auction, in view of the impact of the suspension of the public consultation procedure between March and June due to the pandemic crisis, replacing the schedule that had been published in December 2019. As shown in the indicative schedule below, it is expected that the auction should start in October 2020 and the allocation of frequency user rights (UFR) is planned for 2021.
