ANACOM has progressively authorised the temporary use of the radio spectrum for the conduct of technical trials and scientific studies using various technologies, namely those that will contribute to the start-up of 5G in Portugal, in conformity with number 3 of article 5 of Decree-Law no. 151-A/2000 de 20 Julyhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=976037, in its current wording.
Various entities have conducted a series of studies, pilot projects and demonstrations, in the context of practical use, with a view to testing the potentialities and functionalities of next generation radio technologies.
Research in a practical context in the area of 5G, facilitated and supported by this Authority, has enabled the accumulation of knowledge on this new technology and constitutes a robust basis for the preparation of the future commercial operation of these networks. These experiences increasingly consist of a relevant opportunity to sustain the country's socioeconomic development.
