ANACOM assesses price charged by MEO for DTT

On 2 April 2020, ANACOM approved the assessment of the price currently charged by MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia (MEO) to television operators for providing the service of encoding, multiplexing, transmission and broadcasting of free unrestricted access television channels by the digital terrestrial television (DTT) network (MUX A).

ANACOM concluded that there was no need to review this price charged by MEO, for providing the service of transmission and broadcasting of the DTT signal, before the next annual assessment, because there was no evidence of breach of the principles of transparency, non-discrimination, of prices being driven by costs, taking into account the capacity effectively occupied by each television programme service, the price limit presented in the proposal that was awarded the public tender, and the specific principles applicable to the price for the transmission and broadcasting of the signal of the regional programme services (broadcast in the respective Autonomous Regions).

It should be recalled that, pursuant to Law 33/2016, of 24 Augusthttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1394191, ANACOM is responsible for annually appraising the need to review the prices charged for providing DTT service.

This draft decision is now submitted to the prior hearing of the stakeholders and to the general consultation procedure during 40 business days, up to 5 June 2020.
