Provision of the universal postal service - public consultation report

By decision of 9 March 2020, ANACOM approved the report of the public consultation on the provision of the universal postal service after the end of the current concession, launched by decision of this Authority on 26 November 2019https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1496706, and its dispatch to the Government.

The aim of this public consultation was to gather contributions from the sector and society in general, in particular on the terms and conditions that should be associated to the provision of the universal postal service, its specifications, the need to appoint a universal service provider for its different components, and the interest of the postal service providers in rendering this service.

This involved a joint public consultation of the Government and ANACOM, in view of the distribution of powers and duties defined in the Portuguese legal system.

Under this consultation, in addition to the comments of the Competition Authority, contributions were received from town and city councils, postal service providers, citizens and civil society organisations.

ANACOM analysed the contributions that were received, issuing its understanding of them and making recommendations on issues related to the exercise of powers and duties of the Government.
