ANACOM meets Japanese delegation


On 12 February 2020, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ANACOM, João Cadete de Matos, received a Japanese delegation, in the scope of that country's candidacy for the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the specialised United Nations agency for the postal sector.

The delegation included Masahiko Metoki (Chairman of the Postal Operations Council of the UPU and candidate for the position of Director General of the UPU), Ushio Shigeru (Japanese Ambassador in Portugal), Yusuke Takahashi (from the Japanese Embassy), Akio Miyaji (from the Japanese Ministry of Communications) and Miwa Musha (from the Japanese Post Office).

Masahiko Metoki presented his vision for the future of the UPU and the principles he advocates for the working in the position he is running for and this meeting also served to discuss initiatives in order to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the postal sector.

The election of the next Director General of the UPU will take place at the 27th UPU Congress, which will take place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in August this year.
