ANACOM releases report on DTT quality of service

ANACOM's report on the quality of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) network signal on mainland Portugal during 2017 and 2018 is now available.

This report, which shows the quality of the DTT network signal, as broadcast by the operator MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia, was prepared based on the various technical parameters collected through the network of DTT signal monitoring probes. This monitoring network enables ANACOM to take precautions against and pre-empt potential problems in the reception of the DTT signal, especially when the reformulation of DTT signal coverage is approaching, with the migration of the broadcasting network from the current single frequency network (SFN), which broadcasts on channel 56, to a multifrequency network (MFN). After this transition, an analysis may be carried out of the new level of reception/coverage of the terrestrial broadcasting network.

In the biennium under analysis, on the national mainland territory, the DTT service registered an average availability value of 99.4% and an equally high level of service stability. The processing of the data made it possible to observe asymmetries in the availability of service at certain times of the year, namely, during the summer, a period in which the impact of propagation is most significant, as well as geographical asymmetries with the coast (registering a greater availability of service compared to inland areas) and the Algarve (the region with the best values in this parameter).

The study falls within the powers of this Authority to ensure the efficient management and supervision of the radio spectrum and, also, within the commitment made by ANACOM to citizens, to closely and constantly monitor the quality of the DTT signals broadcast.
