Statistics and Indicators EWG meeting - May 2019

BEREC’s expert working group on Statistics and Indicators (SAI EWG) met last 13 May in Brussels.

In BEREC’s working programme for 2019, in the area of strategic priority 1 (‘Responding to connectivity challenges and to new conditions for access to high-capacity networks’, in particular section 1.9 on ‘Guidelines for geographical surveys of network deployments’), BEREC determined the projected ‘Guidelines to assist NRAs on the consistent application of Geographical surveys of network deployments’.

They derive from article 22 of the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), under which national regulatory authorities and/or other competent authorities should conduct a geographic survey on the extent of electronic communications networks able to supply broadband (‘broadband networks’) within three years counting from the EECC transposition deadline and update it at least every three years.

The project’s scoping and proposal document was virtually finished at the meeting, including the topics to consider and the ambition level BEREC should have for each of the broadband coverage layers, among other aspects. Also, a questionnaire on gathering information on over-the-top (OTT) was finished.
