Bulgaria takes over European Union presidency in the first half of 2018


Bulgaria takes over the presidency of the European Union (EU) from 1 January to 30 June 2018, beginning a new presidential triumvirate with Estonia (2nd half of 2017) and Malta (2nd half of 2018).

The top priorities announced for the next 6 months are:

  • The future of Europe and young people - economic growth and social cohesion.
  • European Perspective and Connectivity of the Western Balkans.
  • Security and stability in a strong and united Europe.
  • Digital economy and skills for the future.
