At the end of 3rd quarter 2016, 84.3 out of every 100 households in Portugal had a bundle of electronic communications services. The number of subscribers to these offers increased by 262 thousand customers from 3rd quarter 2015 (an increase of 8.3%) to reach a total of 3.4 million customers.
Quintuple-play offers which include fixed broadband, the fixed telephone service, subscription TV, the mobile telephone service and mobile broadband, have become the most popular combination, used by 1.391 million subscribers (40.4% of all customers with bundles of services), surpassing the triple-play combination of the fixed telephone service, fixed broadband and subscription TV, which has 1.388 million subscribers (40.3% of the total).
The acceleration in the growth reported in the number of subscribers to bundles of service resulted from increased numbers of triple-play subscribers (+46 thousand subscribers) and an unusual increase in double-play subscribers (+33 thousand subscribers, +22.3%). Quintuple-play bundles were not the primarily driver of growth in multiple-play offers this quarter (with 33,000 new subscribers, in line with the increase in double-play subscribers).
As at the end of the 3rd quarter 2016, revenues from bundles of services totalled 1.25 million euros (increasing by 11.5% over the same period of 2015). Average monthly revenue per subscriber was 41.52 euros.
In terms of number of subscribers, MEO was the provider with the largest share (40%), followed by NOS (39.5%), Vodafone (15.5%) and Grupo APAX (5%). Vodafone was the provider which most increased its share of subscribers in the third quarter, although MEO gained the largest number of subscribers in net terms. NOS led the market in terms of double-play, triple-play and quadruple-play combinations, while MEO led in quintuple-play.
