ANACOM debate - ''New regulation for a Gigabit Society''


“New regulation for a Gigabit Society” is the theme which will be discussed at ANACOM’s 9th International Conference, to be held on 2 November, at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, in Lisbon. The conference will be attended by leading officials from the European Commission, the European Parliament and academia involved in the process of reviewing the regulatory framework.

Roberto Viola, Director General of the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), who has led the review process, will present the European Commission proposal.

The regulatory perspective will be set out by Pilar del Castillo Vera, Member of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy; Sébastien Soriano, Chairman of the French regulator and Chair of BEREC in 2017; by Alexandre de Streel, Joint Academic Director at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) and Professor at the Universities of Namur and Louvain, and by Tony Shortall, director of Telage. The panel will be moderated by Magnus Franklin, Chief Correspondent, Telecoms, Mlex.

The market perspective will be given by the telecommunications operators: Cabovisão (Miguel Veiga Martins), MEO (Paulo Neves), NOS (Miguel Almeida) and Vodafone (Mário Vaz), on a panel moderated by Pedro Norton, manager.

The opening session, taking place at 2:00 pm, will be led by Pedro Marques, Portugal’s Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, and by Fátima Barros, Chair of ANACOM's Board of Directors.
