European Commission announces reorganisation of DG CONNECT

The European Commission has announced the reorganisation of the Directorate General for Communications, Content, Networks, Content & Technology, which is responsible for matters relating to telecommunications, media and the digital economy, with effect from 1 July 2016.

In addition to the reorganisation of responsibilities, some Directorates and operational units have been renamed in order to clarify their responsibilities as well as to reflect the Commission's priorities.

Of note in Directorate B, regarding electronic communication networks and services, is the separation between activity related to the preparation of policies and legislation (operating unit B.1) and the implementation of the regulatory framework (operating unit B.2). Also of note is the renaming of Directorate F "Digital Economy and Coordination" to "Single Digital Market".
