World Standards Day 2016

As part of the celebration for World Standards Day on 14 October 2016, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission issued a joint message on this year's theme: ''Standards build trust''.

In this message, the leaders of these organizations have underlined the importance of international standards to certify quality, safety, and compatibility of products and services. Standards also introduce uniformity, ensuring that everybody communicates in the same way.

On the occasion of this anniversary, a video contest was launched which aims to draw attention to the importance of standards in everyday life. The videos should show what a world would be like with no international standards and they should have a running time of no more than 15 seconds. The first prize is 1,500 Swiss francs.

Those interested should publish their work on YouTube by 15 August 2016.
