On 25 May 2016, the European Commission (EC) adopted a proposal for a Regulation on cross-border parcel service deliveries, which aims to enhance regulatory oversight, encourage competition and increase the transparency of tariffs, in order to reduce the prices paid by individuals and small businesses, especially in remote areas.
The Regulation will therefore complement Directive 97/67/EChttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=986228, where the emphasis was mainly on correspondence, and support the creation of the Digital Single Market so as to increase cross-border e-commerce and digital inclusion.
The European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP) issued a statement in this regard sharing the understanding of the EC and recognising the importance of the measures contained in the proposal for a Regulation.
