Digital strategy for the single market - publication of consultation reports


At the beginning of May, the European Commission (EC) announced the results of two public consultations under the Digital Single Market Strategy.

The first report https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/news/full-report-public-consultation-review-eu-satellite-and-cable-directive relates to the consultation, held from 24 August to 16 November 2015 as part of the review of Directive 93/83/EEC, on the coordination of certain rules concerning copyright and rights related to copyright applicable to satellite broadcasting and cable retransmission. The consultation's objective was to gather input from stakeholders on the assessment of the Directive's requirements and on a possible extension of some of the Directive principle's in light of market and technological developments, as well as on online practices. The Commission will take the results into account in its ongoing work to facilitate cross-border access to content in the European Union (EU).

The second report https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/news/full-synopsis-report-public-consultation-review-national-wholesale-roaming-markets refers to the public consultation, held from 26 November 2015 to 18 February 2016, on technical measures related to the end of roaming charges in the EU. The purpose of this consultation was to review the national wholesale roaming market, fair use policy and the sustainability mechanism referred to in the Roaming Regulationhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1132567. The results of this consultation will contribute to the evaluation of the wholesale market (i.e. the prices that operators charge each other for use of their networks) which will be presented in the next few weeks.
