BEREC publishes 16th international roaming report

The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) has released its 16th report on international roaming on European public mobile telephone networks (roaming), which it approved at its 26th plenary session, held on 25 and 26 February in Rotterdam (Netherlands). The report presents the results of the 16th round of data collection on roaming, which was performed between April and September 2015 through national regulatory authorities. The document also includes information from previous reports, enabling an assessment of progress.

This data is collected pursuant to Regulation (EU) no. 531/2012 of the European Parliament and the Council of 13 June 2012 on roaming on public mobile communications networks within the European Union. The Regulation, which applies to the European Union, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland (European Economic Area), imposes caps on regulated roaming tariffs at wholesale and retail level for voice communication services, the short message service and data services.

The BEREC report reveals that levels of compliance with the Regulation remains high in all EU Member States.

At the same plenary session, approval was also given to the following documents related to roaming:

  • Guidelines on the application of this Regulation (EU);
  • Report on the wholesale roaming market.
