On 4 February 2016, ANACOM approved a draft regulation governing operation of the radio data system (RDS).
This draft regulation seeks to define the technical specification of the RDS system, RDS system applications and respective conditions, to define procedures to be followed to obtain authorisation to operate the RDS system and the items to be included in the corresponding authorisation title, so as to bring the title into line with the legislative changes resulting from the publication of Decree-Law no. 248/2015 of 28 October. The proposed changes do not result in any additional costs for radio operators, and only clarify and simplify procedures for obtaining the authorisation needed to operate RDS.
It was decided to submit the draft regulation to public consultation in accordance with article 10 of ANACOM's Statutes and with articles 98 et seq. of the Código do Procedimento Administrativo (Administrative Proceeding Code). It was also decided to submit the draft to the appraisal of ERC - Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (Media Regulatory Authority).
Interested parties are given a period of 30 working days to comment in writing. Comments should therefore be submitted no later than 8 April 2016, in Portuguese, by email to regulamento-rds@anacom.ptmailto:regulamento-rds@anacom.pt1. Once the consultation process has been concluded, the contributions received will be made public. Therefore, for the purposes of publication on this website, interested parties should also submit a non-confidential version of their responses excluding any items considered confidential.
