Data compiled by the Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) shows that cable television service operators had reached over one million clients by the end of the second quarter this year. Over the same period, cabled accommodation on national territory rose to 2.9 million, and by the end of June 21% of Portuguese homes were receiving cable television.

By the end of the second quarter 20001, the number of subscribers had risen to 1,026 million. This figure represents a 24% increase in relation to the same period in 2000, and a 5% increase in comparison with the previous quarter.

The greatest subscriber growth rates took place in the North, Algarve and Alentejo and the Centre. In all these regions, the number of subscribers to the various operators grew by around 30% between the second quarters of 2000 and 2001.
