ICP has granted a licens to REN - Rede Eléctrica Nacional, S.A. as a public telecommunications network operator. With this licence REN is empowered to establish and operate the capacity of its network either for its own use, or for supply to third parties.
38 public telecommunications network operator licensed have been issued to date by the Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal, although only a reduced number of entities have already started trading in the corresponding activity.
The provision of alternative infrastructures is strengthened as a result of the licensing of this new operator, in the path towards the integrated and consistent development of the telecommunications market.
