Following the tenders launched by the Government to designate Portugal's universal service providers, NOS Comunicações will take over from PT Comunicações as provider of the fixed telephone service from Sunday, 1 June.
From 1 June, users interested in acquiring services should contact NOS Comunicações or ask at one of their retail outlets. Current customers of the universal service, which, to date, has been provided by PT Comunicações, will remain customers of PT Comunicações. However, PT Comunicações will no longer be required to apply the universal service tariffs which remain subject to regulation by ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações.
The universal service guarantees provision of a set of services according to levels of quality standards defined by the regulator, to all users, regardless of their geographical location and at an affordable price.
PT Comunicações will provide the public pay-telephone service and the telephone directory and directory enquiry service.
