Analogue television transmitter at São Macário to be switched off


The first phase of migration to DTT in Portugal, involving coastal areas of the Mainland, concludes on 23.02.2012.

The analogue television transmitter located at São Macário will be switched off between 11 a.m. and 13 p.m. along with the analogue relays of Préstimo, Viseu, Cedrim, Vouzela, Vale de Cambra, Covas do Monte, Santa Maria da Feira, Arouca, Rio Arda, Lalim, Vila Nova de Gaia, Foz, Valongo, Santo Tirso, Caldas de Vizela, Caldas de Vizela II, Amarante, Gondar, São Domingos, Ancede, Caldas de Aregos, Resende, Lamego and Santa Marta de Penaguião.

This switch off will affect the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Guarda, Porto, Vila Real and Viseu, and a total of 3.1 million people and around 1.1 million households.

The next analogue switch off is scheduled for 22 March and will take place in the Azores and Madeira.

Portugal's migration to DTT concludes on 26 April, when the last analogue transmitters and relays operating on Mainland Portugal will be switched off.

Digital television has been available throughout the country, with terrestrial and satellite transmissions, since the end of 2010. A subsidy programme is available to support people on low incomes and organisations of proven social value.
