IGAE Inspects E-commerce Sites


The IGAE - General Inspectorate for Economic Activities (Inspecção-Geral das Actividades Económicas) has published the results of an inspection campaign that targeted e-commerce sites.

The report, released on 21 December, reveals that 371 internet sites were inspected over the year, and as a result 86 prosecutions were initiated against undertakings based in the Portuguese national territory.  Among the infractions detected was a failure to make obligatory information available, such as the identity of the vendor or the representative thereof, the validity of the offer or the client's cancellation rights.

Meanwhile as of 1st January 2006 the IGAE gives way to the new ASAE - Authority of Economy and Food safety (Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica).
