European Commission calls for comments on Roaming

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on its proposed regulation of prices being charged for international mobile roaming services. The new regulations, which will be presented to The European Parliament and The Council, could come into force during 2007 in all Member States as they do not need to be transposed into national law.

The initiative, which was announced on 8th February by Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media during the 16th meeting of the European Regulators Group (ERG), underlines the fact that the high prices being paid by European consumers for using international roaming services presents an obstacle to the European market for electronic communications.

You can send your comments on this issue by email to infso-roaming@cec.eu.int, by 17 March.
