Updated information on the geographic distribution of broadband in Portugal is now available.

In June 2006, 1853 public telephone exchanges were equipped with DSLAM (digital subscriber line access multiplexer).

As far as Internet access through broadband cable modem is concerned, the greatest concentration of cable networks can be found in the regions of Greater Lisbon and Porto. In the autonomous regions, the percentage of households in Madeira with cable access is over 92%, while in the Azores the figure is 60%.
