This year’s World Standards Day was dedicated to the theme: “Standards: big benefits for small business”. The day was celebrated on 14 October by the international standardisation bodies, the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ITU (International Telecommunications Unions) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
The leaders of these principal standards developing bodies underlined the benefits of standardisation in electronic communications, citing the strong contribution that standardisation makes to the success of small and medium of businesses in the global market, specifically by providing impetus to e-commerce. Emphasis should also be given to role that standardization is playing in the development of next generation communication networks.
