CPLP - IV Technical telecommunications meeting


Two-day CPLP - Comunidade de Países de Língua Portuguesa's (Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries) IV technical telecommunications meeting starts tomorrow in Maputo, Mozambique, subject to ''Regulation development in CPLP countries''.

During this meeting the following issues will be debated: the evolution of the telecommunications sector in the CPLP countries; universal service experiences, policy and regulation; the evolution and application of Internet and its role in the socio-economic development of communities; voice over IP (VoIP) technologies in the developing countries and its regulation; regulation of satellite networks, including its state in developing countries and the spreading of services in rural areas; the licensing, application and regulation of 3rd generation networks; the use of broadband infrastructures; local access regulation; and, lastly, the participation in the International Telecommunication Union’s Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-06).

Participants should also discuss the progress registered on issues identified at the III Technical Meeting, which was held in Lisbon, in 2004, as well as the state of the action program for the 2005-2007 period.

ANACOM will actively participate in this meeting, with papers on the following subjects: ''The evolution of the telecommunications sector in the CPLP countries'', ''Licensing, application and regulation of 3rd generation networks'' and ''Participation and European coordination at PP06''.
