Renewal of the rights of use of the GSM 900/1800 frequencies - TMN and Vodafone

Following a decision of 15th July 2005, ANACOM has approved the launch of a public consultation on the renewal of the rights of use allocated to VODAFONE PORTUGAL, SA and TMN, SA for the provision of land mobile services with the GSM 900/1800 system. The aim is to obtain input from GSM 900/1800 operators and other interested parties which will objectively allow ANACOM to define a set of conditions for these operators to observe under the scope of this activity following renewal of the corresponding rights of use. These operators’ licenses, which are valid for a period of 15 years from their issue date, expire in 2006 and 2007 respectively, and may be renewed for an equivalent 15-year period.

In accordance with article 20 of Law nº 5/2004 of 10th February, any amendments to the terms, rights or procedures under the scope of this activity are subject to the general consultation procedure specified in article 8 of the same legislation, with interested parties, namely users and consumers, having a period of 30 working days to state their opinions on the proposed amendments. Comments are thus encouraged by the deadline of 31th August 2005 and may be sent, preferably by e-mail, to direitos.utilizacao@anacom.pt.
