Held from 28 October to 22 November 2019, in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), the World Radiocommunication Conference of 2019 (WRC-19) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), chaired by Amr Badawi (Egypt) aims to revise the Radio Regulations, an international treaty ruling the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits.
The WRC-19 agenda, adopted on 2 June 2017 by the ITU Council (Resolution 1380), covers various topics, including: spectrum for mobile systems (IMT) above 6 GHz; regulatory measures to support the modernisation of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS); spectrum, technical and regulatory measures to support the introduction and use of the Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS); potential allocation of the 50-54 MHz band to the amateur service; global or regional harmonisation of additional spectrum for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the context of existing allocations to the mobile service; use of 17.7-19.7 GHz / 27.5-29.5 GHz frequencies by Earth Stations In Motion (ESIM); regulatory actions for high altitude platforms stations (HAPS) in the context of the existing allocations of the fixed service; spectrum and regulatory actions for wireless access systems / Radio Local Area Networks (WAS/RLAN) in bands between 5150-5925 MHz; and spectrum and/or review of the regulatory framework for satellite networks.
