NOTAS:

"Ovum is projecting the global Ethernet services market to exceed $70bn by 2020, growing at a 10.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2014. Cloud service adoption by enterprises is accelerating and Ethernet is well positioned as the secure, high-bandwidth, low-cost-per-bit data service of choice for access and for interconnecting data centers.

Communications service providers (CSPs) continue to judiciously extend their on-net Ethernet footprint, leveraging multi-service platforms, deploying fiber into new buildings, and extending long-haul terrestrial and submarine networks. CSPs with cable company heritage are retooling their unique metro fiber footprints for an aggressive pursuit of enterprise business. Competition is intensifying in the major cities around the globe. Subsea cables are undergoing a renaissance, with new deployments and upgrades, and their owners are offering high-capacity Ethernet handoffs.

Ethernet ports continue to grow, but revenue will be bounded by intensifying competition and increasing pressure on price per bit. With all Ethernet industry players expanding their reach and capabilities, competition is on the rise – providers are bumping into each other more and more. Dark fiber providers are lurking in the shadows, the bane of the high-capacity lit service market, offering even-lower cost per bit propositions for those willing to do it themselves."
